Kansas City weddings are always wonderful. Maybe its being in a different city for the weekend, or the wonderful wedding people we are with, the whole day seems to fly by. Brandon and Holly’s day was crisp, bright, and beautiful- it really couldn’t have went any better for us. The night before, some great friends and I ran around the city, scouting different photo spots. We snooped around Union Station, getting lost in the lofty ceiling and marble mazes, but ultimately finding some great photo spots. Regardless, these lovebirds could have made a junkyard look fun! Leah and Phillip had a beautiful winter wedding that ended last year perfectly for us. It was a brisk, outdoor evening ceremony filled with some of the most creative people in the Midwest! The Historic Firehouse on Commercial Street offered a wonderful courtyard that was softly lit and intimate, perfect for low-light photography. I always love the challenge of low light, but also the way people and shadows play so well off each other.

They put a lot of thought into their sweet and dreamy details: tablescapes with baby’s breath flowers, mason jars, mini pine cones, milk glass vases, and birch tree twigs. Custom cupcake and sweets table by Emma with Red Velvet Sweet Shoppe and (one of our favorite things to see at weddings) bridesmaids with different dresses on, each a different style, color, texture. We love Love LOVE this, it always looks so great and photographs beautifully. The night ended with a fun sparkler exit into the chilly winter night…Enjoy the sneak peek!

Unveiled 2012: Bridal Fashion Show

Ella Weiss Wedding Design had a stellar runway show tonight. The collection featured some of the most respected names in designer dresses such as Watters WTOO Bride , Sottero & Midgley, La Sposa by Pronovias, Romona Keveza, & Anne Barge. Brides and their mom or girlfriends had a visual treat as each dress walked by to show off detail, color, movement and style. Following the show a private reception featured delectable hors d’oeuvres from Dining by Design, floral design by Ron Johnson from the Thicket, and of course cake tasting from Celebrations by the oh-so-talented Sonja paired with chilled raspberry champagne. If you didn’t want to get married before you came, you sure did now!

Before the show began, hair and make-up were transforming the girls into bridal beauties. Jennifer Bridgman with Studio 417 and her team created beautifully modern do’s for the models. We love seeing women looking fresh and young, and the hair can really finish off your look on the big day. Don’t have a hair girl yet? Studio 417 will not disappoint! The make-up team was from Salon Moda (417) 864-0200, also downtown Springfield. Equally as amazing, the girls looked fresh and natural for the runway…I think everyone worked really well together to pull off a stunning look for the evening…

And the best part: All the proceeds went to the wonderful Isabel’s House here in the Ozarks (Offering a home away from home for children 12 and under, with education and support for the whole family in need during a crisis such as homelessness, medical crises, and overwhelming parental stress). Baby Bump: Sofie

Like I said, I’ve had the best of the best baby bump’s walk through our doors- and this one is no exception! Stefanie came totally prepared with props, a vision, and some visual research on Pintrest…And I love love stripes on the belly, its super eye catching, modern and simple. I think creating a natural light studio was one of the best things I did for the business, shots like these are some much more relaxed when you can control the light and temperature (and wind!)

Birds and Bridal…

Jessica has been so much fun to shoot with this past year. Her wedding was in January, so we decided to do a bridal session a month before. Her dress and details were stunning, and for an added element, we brought doves! They added such a sweet little touch to the shoot. We even got to release some outside that day! Once they fly from the cage, the go straight home. Its pretty fascinating to think about what these birds are capable of. Faye with Covenant Doves ( 417.861.5787) is a delight to work with and has created a unique, local idea for brides, charity events, and photographers!

Ohhh, I am loving the baby bellies this year in our new studio. The light is natural and diffused, making hot little mama even more beautiful! Baby Gavin will be here so soon, maybe even before the end of the month. He couldn’t have sweeter, nicer, laid back parents than these two. The simplicity of her dress and the softness of the fabric show just how cute the baby belly can be!

I am a brain-stormer. I love to think up new ways to do things, smart ideas on how thing should run, and cool ways to reach new clients. I noticed at wedding shows, as a vendor, I was being looked over. I get embarrassed for the vendors that jump in front of a new bride and all but lick her face off with nice, shallow compliments just so they can coax their new prey into their den, uh- I mean booth. However, there are many vendors that are HUGELY popular, all the while making no attempt at all to engage passing guests. Can you guess which ones they were? The wedding cake and catering booths! They have something universal, something for the guest to try, a little nibble there may get their business later. Don’t get me wrong, they have minimal engagement because they are working like a mad man cutting, serving, and answering questions from their new fans…

I stumbled across these and knew they were perfect for my potential clients. Who doesn’t like fortune cookies?!? These vibrant, cute, individually wrapped cookies can be custom made for whatever reason- upcoming Valentines day dinners, birthday parties, wedding favors, or just because. Within each order you can pick the colors, flavors, and up to fives different messages. For us, putting a sweet little sayin’, our website and phone number worked perfectly to engage clients and let them know we are a different, unique studio. (Interesting fact: most men asked specifically for the royal blue cookies, while most of the women didn’t prefer one color over another)

6 months of cuteness, Dutch!

I have loved watching little Dutch grow over the past 6 month! His little face and big, bright eyes are just so adorable…He’s sitting up this time, maybe next time I see him he will be trying to talk! Oh how much I love these sessions, seriously, I think I might have the best job in the entire world…

Probably the most fantastic wedding day for us…Jessica and Michael’s details were all sparkles, even down to Jessica’s rhinestone shoes she “stoned” herself! The day went perfectly, ending with an amazing reception at the University Plaza- it was a visual delight. The wonderful wedding coordinator Stephanie Weiss with Ella Weiss Wedding Design was there making sure the day ran smoothly, while Brandon Goodwin was filming the entire day in the beautiful signature style everyone absolutely loves.
